Mother began as an experiment. I wanted to paint a woman with a head covering and explore a different approach to the background, inspired by another artist’s work.
I wasn’t painting with a particular story or feeling in mind. I was following my curiosity and trying something new. Since then, others have seen motherhood, guidance, and an ancestral presence in her. I appreciate that the painting can hold meanings for someone else that weren’t apart of my original intention.
